New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum smashed 74 off 38 balls helped New Zealand to beat England by 55 runs in the 2nd Twenty20 international on Tuesday to level the three match series at 1-1.
England packed down New Zealand by 40 runs in the 1st game in scored their highest ever Twenty20 total of 214 for 7. But New Zealand entirely reversed that result at Seddon Park on Tuesday, made 192 for 6 after being sent in to bat and bowled out England for 137 in 19.3 overs.
The third and decider match is at Wellington on Friday. McCullum hitted five sixes and six fours. He build on an terrific start from openers Martin Guptill (47) and Hamish Rutherford (40), who added 75 runs for the first wicket in 8.2 overs. At one stage England were 25 for 3 and after 10 overs 47 for 5, having all but lost any possibility of winning the game and taking the series with a match to spare.
Only wicketkeeper Jos Buttler, unbeaten scored 32 runs in the first match at Auckland, stood up to the New Zealand attack with an innings of 54 runs, including a half century from just 28 balls. Buttler smashed the only six of the England innings.
Recalled medium fast bowler Ian Butler produced an outstanding spell for New Zealand, claimed 2 for 9 from four overs while James Franklin take 4 for 15.
