England seal a 40 runs win over New Zealand in the 1st Twenty20 at Auckland after racking up a record breaking 214 for 7 with the bat.
Stuart Broad's mens broken the tiny boundaries at Eden Park to plunder boundaries, and the visitors cleared the ropes 15 times defeat their earlier record by four as they easily surpassed their maximum Twenty20 score of 202 for 6.
Luke Wright topped the sixes charts with four, and the all rounder later claimed 2 for 29 with the bowling, while Stuart Broad starrer with his best ever Twenty20 figures of 4 for 24 and Steven Finn also take in with three wickets. Wright was speedy to upstage both Hales and Lumb as he smashed seven fours at a strike rate of 210.
Hira dropped Jonny Bairstow on 22 off Ellis as the hosts continued to make blunders in the field, McClenaghan inexplicably failing to pick up a shot from Morgan which he could not even get a hand to at midwicket off Nathan McCullum. England's whole top six make at least 20 runs each at a rate of over a run a ball, New Zealand's chase was always going to be a frightening one, but Guptill lead from the front with a savage 44 runs.
Colin Munro manage to add 28 runs for the New Zealand, but there was little further resistance after Guptill was removed by Wright. Hira was remained unbeaten on 20 at the end, but the home side efforts petered out poorly in the last overs and England comfortably closed out a fine victory which sees them started the tour in imposing fashion.
The both sides will face again for the 2nd T20 in Hamilton on Tuesday, before the final encounter of the three match series at Wellington on February 15.
